Add Text to GIF FAQ

Can I show the text on only some frames?

Yes. Use the start frame and end frame fields to limit which frames the text appears on. Set both to the same number to add text to a single frame.

Why does the text look different after encoding?

GIFs are limited to 256 colors per frame. Re-encoding with the text overlay can shift colors slightly due to palette quantization. You can run the result through Compress GIF to improve quality.

How do I position the text?

Use the Top / Center / Bottom presets, or enter exact X and Y percentages (0% = left/top edge, 100% = right/bottom edge). The text is automatically clamped so it stays inside the frame.

Is there a live preview?

Yes — a preview of frame 1 with the current text settings updates in real time. Click Apply Text to encode all frames.
