GIF to Video FAQ

Which format should I choose — WebM or MP4?

WebM works in all modern browsers and is the safest choice. MP4 is better for sharing on social media or with people who use non-browser video players.

Does the animation timing stay accurate?

Yes. Each frame is held on screen for its exact GIF delay time before the next frame is captured, so the video plays at the same speed as the original GIF.

Is anything uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser using the MediaRecorder API and gifuct-js for GIF decoding. Your file never leaves your device.

Why is MP4 sometimes not available?

MP4 recording via MediaRecorder is only supported in some browsers (mainly Edge on Windows). If your browser does not support it, the tool automatically falls back to WebM.
